Dry pipe fire sprinklers

‘Dry’ sprinkler systems are designed for use in areas where there is a risk of freezing (below 5C degrees) or where the ambient temperature may exceed 70C degrees.

Dry systems are charged with pressurised air, down-stream of the installation control valve. The control valve holds the water back where the pipe work upstream is wet but is either in a heated area or has trace heating and lagging to protect it from freezing.

When operated, the air discharges through the operating sprinkler head, followed by water onto the fire.

Typical uses for Dry systems are carparks, unheated warehouses, or large canopies.
